The Wonder Of Telling It Like It Is

Years ago, when I was building my production company Baran Productions, I ran into a peculiar phenomenon amongst certain business owners.

My services were straight ahead. I had national credentials as a radio producer of commercials, jingles etc. (I was on the List of Recommended Creative Resources of the Radio Advertising Bureau) Plus I had extensive experience as a marketing consultant. When I actively pursued a new client I brought a lot of expertise and an impressive track record to the the table.

But the strangest thing would happen!

The businesses I was convinced could benefit the most from what I had to offer seemed to always have the greatest resistance. I mean, it was astonishing to hear business owners go into great detail as to why they continue to do something which was obviously causing them to fail.

It was obvious to them and me… at least I thought it was obvious to them.

They had justified and rationalized making decisions and doing things which placed their business on a collision course with failure. But, they refused to do anything about it because any change would be in conflict with their rationale.

Now what I’m about to say is absolutely true:

In every case of this type of resistance, that business would cease to exist within a year. Often within six months! I became convinced that these people wanted to crash and burn because deep inside they hated what they were doing. What possible reason could they surrender to an obvious course of failure?

It’s called denial.

For many, crashing and burning is the only wake up call. It’s unfortunate that this is the case. Especially when an individual knows something is wrong with their lives, is not happy and faces a constant struggle. I’ve come to believe that denial of the obvious is a form of mental disease. The cause of the disease is the individual’s ego… a sick ego.

When your ego rules your life, turmoil, drama and failure is always the outcome. The ego needs approval and must maintain control. It will do so at the cost of it’s own existence.

Looking back now, I regret I didn’t have the self-confidence to point out to those people the inevitability of their failure. It might have made a difference to some.

I was in my thirties and pulled back from telling like it is…

Thank goodness telling it like it is comes very naturally to me now. I hold it as a sacred responsiblity to not hold back the truth from my Clients.

The New Wonder Drug: Chocolate

Okay, I heard two different reports today.

The first one had to do with a European study looking for female volunteers… to eat one chocolate bar a day for a full year. They are checking chocolate’s ability to regulate type 2 diabetes!

Then I heard about another study that showed chocolate reduced the incidence of preeclampsia, in pregnant women by 69%!

Is chocolate the new wonder drug?

Does it surprise you that “science” is finally getting around to looking at common things which have been part of our shared culture for decades. Did you know sour kraut has medicinal properties? (google it)

I predict, after the discovery that “jelly bellies” cures failing eyesight, the scientific community is going to have an “aha” moment: Maybe when people feel good they tend to have a stronger resistance to disease and greater self healing powers… And maybe consciousness, that is what people really believe, is the ultimate healing power.

Maybe a lot of what we think are healing foods actually trigger a belief response which converts into the necessary bodily reactions resulting in healing.

Just a thought…

You’ll excuse me now, it’s time for my next dose of pizza. It’s part of an anti-aging thing I’m working on. You see, pizza makes me feel like a kid.

The Wonder Of Fluid Intelligence

Did you know that it is widely assumed by “authorities” that intelligence is a fixed trait determined by inheritance…

Yeah, they call it fluid intelligence. In other words, whatever you were born with, that’s as much as you’re ever going to have.

Guess what, their assumption is wrong.

Those of us who work with our creativity have long known that intelligence is a flexible component. It increases or decreases as our needs change. I’m astonished that this wasn’t understood by those who carry the torch of research (and get our tax dollars) into the wonders of the human mind.

Now a recent study proving that fluid intelligence can be increased as the result of “training” has the establishment baffled. What’s the surprise?

The mind will always expand its capacity to support current reality. If an individual is living a predictable repetitive lifestyle his or her fluid intelligence is going to shrink to the smallest amount necessary for that purpose. Someone living a passionate lifestyle where the personal discovery process creates challenging and fulfilling experiences will increase their “innate” intelligence in order to accommodate the new information necessary to support that expanding reality.

This is just common sense.

Those who measure intelligence as an indicator of true potential are themselves suffering from the myopic view of an arbitrary point within a naturally expanding and contracting neurological process… and proclaiming it to be “all there is”.

I thought we were well down the road from the flat Earth. .

Oh no, I can feel the fluid contracting again… better end this. I’m running out of brai

One or Two Percent Change

I’ve always maintained that it only takes 1% or 2% change to transform your life.

Too many of us think that in order to get from where we are to where we want to be is going to require a sudden major overhaul of our lives. The overhaul comes over time as a natural series of steps you embrace as the path of least resistance.

It does take a small 1% or 2% adjustment to your current attitudes, opinions and beliefs to change the trajectory of your life. This is what gets things moving in a new direction. The other adjustments present themselves as opportunities. In order to take these new steps you will have found that you are ready to expand what you thought was possible and have the confidence to do so. You make further adjustments as you are ready to do so. It’s a natural process.

The fear of making dramatic change is overwhelming…

Fear of the unknown makes us avoid dealing with those aspects of our lives which we know are the causes of our unhappiness. The two biggest mistakes most people make are thinking a “divine hand” is going to descend from the clouds and sweep away all of your problems. The other mistake is thinking that getting from where you are now to where you want to be is so overwhelming that there’s no use even trying.

Both mistakes cause you not to take action and to accept things as they are
“Divine intervention” only comes from within. As a flame of inspiration which illuminates a new journey through yourself…

Nothing is so overwhelming that a single step cannot change the equation and cause the outcome to change.

Embracing Adversity

With every great adventure comes adversity…

It’s an essential part of what creates a solid foundation for continuing the adventure. Without setbacks there would be no opportunity to examine where you’ve come from, where you’re going and more fully understanding where you are right now.

This is a natural process.

Sometimes when you take two steps forward and find yourself taking a step backward it can be the most important step in the process. Because the step backward is the result of something which must be addressed in order for the forward progress to continue. In other words, something is out of balance or has now become a significant obstacle.

The ability to recognize the essential periods of adjustment along the way to your goals and dreams is what empowers you to succeed. Fully embracing these moments with an open mind and open heart will reveal yet another layer of contradiction within you. Enabling you to adjust your attitudes, opinions and beliefs so your journey will continue to be based upon a solid foundation.

The greatest growth comes when you think you’re doing everything right and the
unexpected surprises you and causes you to examine your motives.
