When Your Journey Begins
For a long time I labored under the illusion that “things” would start happening in my life when I achieved certain goals and dreams.
Because of this I would place blinders over my eyes and stay focused only on what I thought was the next thing I had to do.
Big mistake!
What I failed to understand is that the journey was the process which made “my life happen”. It wasn’t some place I was trying to get to. In fact, what I learned (the hard way) was when I was only focused on achieving a certain thing or experience, it became the “long way” to get there. When I got there it wasn’t at all what I had hoped it would be. In fact it was usually disappointing… there was little joy and fulfillment at the end of the journey.
Why?
The left brain analytical part of your mind wants to “see” things as straight lines. It will justify focusing only on the accomplishment of a specific goal. The problem is that life does not happen in straight lines. Your experience of life is a series of steps which at times may not seem to be related to each other. It is only when you have reached the “place” you intended, that you are able to connect the dots and see how the unrelated series of events were, in fact, necessary and absolutely essential.
The point I’m trying to make here is that you miss the full experience and fulfillment that the journey from “where you are to where you want to be”, provides you, if the only thing you focus on is “where you want to be”.
Focusing only on the end game is inefficient and time wasting!
This flies in the face of just about everybody who talks about setting goals. Hey, we even talk about setting goals in our Intentional Prosperity™ System Life Coaching Program… The important difference is that we define a “goal” as a holistic endeavor which includes the totality of your day-to-day life experience.
In order to get to “where you want to be” in life, you must simultaneously create an inner and outer foundation which will support your new reality. You can’t do that by only focusing on your goals.
Why?
You’ll end up arriving at your desired destination without the ability to stay there!
It comes down to this: You can use the left-brain analytical part of your mind to establish goals… but if you fail to bring your imagination, emotions and body (outer reality) along with it, you haven’t created the foundation necessary to support your new reality…
The big secret: How you get there is the joy and fulfillment part of the journey “from where you are to where you want to be”.
