The Greatest Fear Of All
Intimacy.
We are so afraid of revealing ourselves because of the possibility of betrayal that we waste our lives in a cacoon. At one point or several points in your life, you opened yourself to the wrong persons. Maybe they weren’t capable of accepting your true self because they had not reached the truth of their own selves.
So, you pull back not wanting to go through the horrible pain of feeling loved and accepted and then having that dissolve while you standby helpless, unable to do anything about it.
You wrap yourself in another layer making it even harder for anyone to get inside. Even making it harder for you to get inside because it hurts to look at yourself …alone.
The only way to know true love is to first know false love.
Real intimacy between two people is possible. Having someone love you completely and you loving someone completely is the most beautiful experience in life. You must be ready and willing to look inside yourself and accept what you see and trust what you know. This must happen before you will ever be able to trust someone else.
Your ability to trust someone, thereby achieving a degree of intimacy, is fully an outer expression of your ability to trust yourself… and experience intimacy with who you really are.
