It goes by so fast…

My father used to say: “Life goes by so fast — In the blink of an eye”.  When I was a young man it was hard for me to comprehend the full meaning of his lament.

Now I’m astonished how quickly life moves.

It is unrelenting. It doesn’t wait for you take a vacation or watch a movie. Time keeps moving forward creating memories which you remember as your life.

I did discover something surprising about time:

Doing something consistently on a day-to-day basis creates an anchor point in time. If you want something to be different in the future, you have to create an anchor point which becomes the foundation upon which your future will be built upon.

Do nothing, and your future will be no different than your past.

Create an anchor point with your imagination, emotion, mind and body being focused on a day-to-day activity — on a consistent basis — and you create a parallel reality which will, in time, become part of your day-to-day life.

If you do nothing, nothing will change.

Fill your day with distraction and one day you will look in the mirror and wonder where all the time went. Then you’ll vaguely remember it was movies, tv and all of those hours of entertainment that gave you so many moments of escape.

Only you won’t remember what great lessons they taught you. What challenges they presented you and what significant accomplishment resulted form all that time you spent.

In fact, you probably won’t remember the names of the movies, the characters in the tv shows or anything of significance from all the hours you invested entertaining yourself. It will all be a blur.
