Your Goal Is Only A Starting Point

I think it’s important to clarify something.

A clearly defined goal is only a starting point.  It’s a focus for the journey you’re going to take in order to get from where you are to where you want to be.

The key to getting to where you really want to be in your life is to allow yourself to be open to altering how you define that goal – as you journey toward it.

That’s why my definition of a “clearly defined goal” may be very different than the literal interpretation of those words.

A clearly defined goal is having a clear “feeling” of the “emotional flavor” that goal represents.

The mistake too many people make is they try to imagine every detail of the goal – which always limits it to their current belief of what’s possible or probable.

The thing is, as you journey toward your goal you go through a transformation which tends to open your eyes to greater possibilities.  In other words, you begin to “see” and understand attributes of your goal which you may not have even been aware of when you started your journey.

If you had limited yourself to only seeking your initial “picture” you may never have had the chance to realize that those original colors were very different than what you really wanted.

Focusing on the essence or “flavor” of what you desire empowers you to continue to evolve as you approach the point in time where what it is you want becomes a possibility in your life.

I believe it allows you to recognize much more quickly those relationships and opportunities which will bring you what you really want…

- and you’ll get “there” quicker than you ever imagined.

Now Comes Reality…

My last blog posting had to do with “fantasy” vs. working toward a dream.

Today I just got off the phone with someone who’s gone beyond the fantasy stage and is working on the dream…

What a nice uplifting experience!

No games, no attitude – just a desire to follow their passion.  In this case a husband and wife team.  He is a musician from Brazil – she is his wife, partner and fellow traveler.

What was cool was she brought a common sense perspective – he brought passion, desire and commitment.  And one more thing – they both shared a clear goal. They sought me out for guidance on how to reach that goal.

This is always a joyous kind of experience for me.

You know you’re saving someone years of trial and error with your experience and what you can show them. They bring a passion about their dream that is infectious and inspiring.

It’s a win-win situation.

Mentoring someone – becoming a part of their “master-mind alliance” is a blast!

Especially, when that person is honest and open – no pretense – about what they want to achieve in life. From my perspective it means I’m going to be able to quickly get to the “core” of the situation and help them understand what their options are and what the potential ramifications of those options will be. So they can make informed decisions.

As far as I’m concerned it’s a privilege to become a part of passionate individual’s support system…

It reinforces my core belief that anything is possible.

And the only thing that keeps you from living the life of your dreams – is the myriad of rationalized excuses you’ve created to justify staying exactly where you are.

The important thing to remember is that genuine passion acts as a very powerful beacon which will – if you choose to follow it – illuminate a pathway around those self-defeating attitudes, opinions and beliefs.

Thing is, at some point you have to commit yourself to your dream and take action – or your excuses will eventually douse the light.
