It’s common knowledge that getting a good education will land you a job. What’s uncommon knowledge is the hidden secret that self education is the doorway to real prosperity and abundance.

I remember being attracted - while still in my twenties - to a headline I read in a direct response ad placed in a magazine I was reading.  The headline was something like this:

“Most people don’t make any money because they’re  to busy spending all their time trying to earn a living”

The truth of that statement resonated with me and I bought the book “The Lazy Man’s Way To Riches”.  I was working in an automotive assembly plant at the time.

All these years later the truth of that statement has never diminished.  The greatest single reason people fail to live the life they love is because they severely limit how prosperity and wealth flow into their lives. They keep themselves blind to the possibilities.

So they sell the single most important asset they possess:  TIME

The most productive time of their lives is sold off - often at a huge discount - 40 or more hours a week in order to do little more than survive.  And they actually believe that living within the tightly controlled little world their fixed income provides is what life is supposed to be like.

NO IT’S NOT!

Life should be a series of adventures - one dovetailing into the next.  Each a new page or chapter in your book of life. At some point “money” should no longer be the biggest obstacle to “doing what you want - when you want”.

Instead of life being a book of adventure stories - to many people opt for only two or three chapters:

School -  Work - Retirement

Because the work chapter of their lives represents the largest single time period in their lives - many actually put off until retirement - those experiences which would have enriched and transformed their lives - if only they could have experienced them ten or twenty years earlier.

Instead of working on themselves - whatever “ongoing education” they participate in is usually work related - just enough to make sure they can hold onto their job until they can retire.

The greatest gift life has given you is the time you’re alloted to experience it.

If your “year” is measured by the highlights of vacations and time off from work - why not turn your “work” into a vacation.  Make the rest of your life the “highlight of your life”,

Why not begin now to live the best years of your life while you can still fully immerse yourself into the experience?

For many “baby boomers” - who have lost an enormous amount of wealth during the last few months - as a result of their portfolios, 401k’s and other risk based investments dropping 50% or more in value - the thought of care free retirement years has been wiped away.

It happened so fast that for many it was absolutely stunning to watch a lifetime of wealth accumulation melt away.  The sad thing was those who trusted their “financial advisers” often suffered the worst. The reason: The predictive models used by the financial experts were suddenly made obsolete by forces beyond even their understanding…

It’s like what John Stewart said when he confronted “Mad Money’s” Jim Cramer last week.  Pointing out that there is a two-tiered economy and how the financial reporters have led us down the path to ruin because they were either unaware of the reality of the “other economy” or engaged in some kind of “collusion” to whitewash the immensity of the problem.

But where does that leave you?

Especially, if you had just retired or were getting ready to retire?

With President Obama telling us it’s going to take “years” to work our way out of the current economic crisis - what can you do to reverse the damage you may have already suffered?

It would be foolish to wait around for your investments to regain their value.  That may or may not happen in your lifetime.  The general consensus is that investments are eventually going to regain lost value but at a very conservative rate of growth.

In other words, don’t “bank” on it happening in the next three to five years…

For many of us baby boomers we can still see focusing our energies for the next three to five years in order to create some kind of mechanism to finance our “golden years”…  It may be a matter of doing something we never imagined ourselves doing - like starting a business and creating a new stream of income above and beyond what we had hoped we had already accomplished over the last 30 + years.

The point I’m trying to make is this:

I just finished writing this letter to Ryan.

He’d asked me if Intentional Prosperity™ was like the law of attraction. By the time I finished it I realized it would make a good posting - so here goes:

Ryan,

The law of attraction is only one part of a number aspects that need to be in balance - within you - in order for you to consciously focus your attention on a consistent basis - coupled with consistent action - which will put you into the “zone” where you begin to “see” what you hadn’t seen before…

- and have the natural confidence - what I call “knowingness” - to act upon the possibilities and opportunities that are always around you - but you’ve not recognized because of how you’ve been “set up” (by your “programming”) to process the information coming through your five senses.

Now imagine for a moment that all things you desire are already here - existing as a potential reality for you to experience.  The only thing that separates you from what you desire is what your attitudes, opinions and beliefs are preventing you from “seeing - understanding - and having the natural confidence to act upon”.

In other words,  you are just a few relationships away - at any given time - from being “in the right place at the right time” which provides you with the opportunity to experience what it is you desire.

The process is always a double-edged sword however.  Your “intent” determines the outcome.  This means you  can use the “process” to bring your life crashing and burning around you - or you can use it to expand your natural ability to handle an ever growing flow of life and expansion of what you experience as “good”.

It all comes down to your intention.

If your intention is good - it means you desire what is good for others as well as what is good for you.  If your intention is “bad” - it means you’re looking out only for yourself - you win while somebody loses…

If your basic intention is “good” things will always work out better than you imagined.  If your basic intention is “bad” things will always work out worse than you expected.

Here’s the most amazing part of always working from the most honest part of yourself:

Even if you make a decision based upon “faulty information” but your intent was “good” - you will always be given the opportunity - from your growing ability to recognize “truth” - to recognize and fix the “bad” decision and still have everything work out okay.  I call it “the principle of an honest mistake”.

Your good heart and honesty will always be your most powerful assets in your life.

Remember:  The law of attraction - consciously practiced - is the end result of understanding the ramifications of your current attitudes, opinions and beliefs - and taking back control over those things you can control within yourself  as well as  how you react to situations in your day-to-day life.

Too many people wait to long and then become victims of “the waiting”.  Way too much denial and not enough action is how people really get into trouble.

You may remember in an earlier posting I talked about the story I heard a guy tell about his father:

His job was to “close out” factories.

Ship out the machinery and close them up.  He recounted that to his amazement - time after time he would suggest that the workers in the factory he was closing out should check out job availability at another plant - and time after time he would have workers say - “No thanks, I’m going to see how things turn out here”.

So they would hang around until the day he padlocked the factory door.

That’s a true story.
