Shrinking Reality
I talked to an old friend over the weekend
We hadn’t communicated in almost 15 years. We met while in college - so I’ve known him a long time. We even partnered in a couple of business ventures many years ago.
So it was with a great deal of shock that I listened to his “story”. One he told with great passion and detail about his “great fall”.
You see, he’s now living in a one room cottage in the North Carolina mountains. He has no bank account-his house was foreclosed upon - his wife divorced him and he can’t afford to declare bankruptcy so if he tries to get a job all his wages will be garnisheed - So now he can’t hold down a job.
All of this happened before the financial meltdown.
Listening to his story one thing became clear:
He kept retrenching - ever in the survival mode - and never drew the “line in the sand” and taking his “stand” against the onslaught of “poverty consciousness” - which has now fully overtaken his rationale.
He rationalizes his poverty.
This guy is no dummy. In fact he could have just as easily written the “Intentional Prosperity™ System as I did. He knows the principles and techniques just like I do. But somewhere in time he chose to use the principles and techiniques against himself. That’s right against himself.
Poverty shrinks your reality - Prosperity expands your reality
You see, we all do it to a greater or lesser degree. If you were to lay out your attitudes, opinions and beliefs - you would find an amalgam of both prosperity and poverty based rationalizations - that’s a normal part of the human condition.
It’s also what keeps you in your status quo - your current day-to-day reality.
Change 1 or 2% of your “poverty rationale” to prosperity and your life will become transformed as you rapidly move toward living the life of your dreams. On the other hand, change 1 or 2% of your prosperity rationale to poverty and you begin the downward slide…
In my friend’s case - he is living the life of his dreams - his dreams of poverty.
IF YOU ALLOW YOUR FEARS, UNCERTAINTIES AND DOUBTS TO BECOME THE FOCUS OF YOUR ATTENTION - YOUR DREAMS - YOUR DAY-TO-DAY REALITY WILL REFLECT WHAT YOU PUT YOUR ATTENTION ON.
My friend understood this truth - yet for some reason he chose to “buy into” the F.U.D. - and now his life reflects the nightmare he chose to keep dreaming.
There’s so much fear in the air right now because of the economy that it’s very easy to let yourself justify “shrinking your reality”.
Now more than ever you have to DREAM BIG. You have to go contrary to the “mood” that’s in the air. Right now we are all facing the greatest test of our lifetime. Are you going to keep keep retrenching like my old friend - stuck in the survival mode - until your entire world becomes the four walls in a shack on the side of a mountain somewhere?
Or are you going to “draw a line in the sand” and begin to expand your prosperity?
I plan on reaching out to my old friend and giving him a large dose of hope - I’ve asked some of our mutual friends to do the same - call it an intervention. I don’t know if it will break through the “cement of his current belief system”.
All I can do is try - because I love my old friend - I still see his heart.
When you see someone’s heart you have a responsibility to send him or her love. To mirror the light of hope and just maybe break through to the point where a person “remembers” who they really are - that it’s never too late - that life is just a classroom after all…
And this too is just another lesson.
