“Not Interested”… Or Are You Depressed?
“Not Interested”? …Or Are You Depressed?
I have a friend in the Seattle area who lost his job a few weeks ago. He’s put in several applications for similar jobs but has been turned down - the economy is the excuse he’s given…
So like too many people he just “going through the motions” of looking for another job. The problem is the job he’s looking for will more than likely never “come back”. It’s been consolidated or eliminated altogether. Only the very best - brightest and frankly lowest paid are going to “qualify” for the few jobs left in his “field”.
Which brings me to the point of this blog:
I told him about an opportunity that would allow him to “cash-in” on his years of experience and profit from what he already knows - in a manner that would bring him a substantial increase in income over any possible job he could find.
The irony is that he could surpass the starting pay of the type of job he’s been trying to find in the next two to three months - within a year or two - several hundred thousands of dollars a year. And yes he knows it’s possible because he’s familiar with the type of opportunity I was telling him about.
He knows it’s possible - he’s not making any progress finding a job -
And now he’s not returning my phone calls or emails…
It’s not like I was “bugging” him. I had one conversation with him where he was very open - then no response.
I don’t think the reason is he’s “not interested” - I think he’s depressed!
I actually think he’s afraid of his own passion. It’s easier to just go through the motions and hold back on hope - then allow himself to dream again.
This is why the world is in a recession
Too many people are afraid to dream…
Thank God I “woke up” out of my own malaise a couple of months ago and realized that “the recession was over”! The overall economy is down maybe 10-15%. The worse case scenario is that it’s still 85% viable. People have only pulled-back on their spending - they haven’t stopped completely. We’re going through a “reset” right now.
People are reevaluating their priorities…
For some who decide that their current job is a dead-end - that there is no more adventure in their lives - that they have no quality time for their families - that they’re really not happy with what they’re doing - This recession is the best thing that could have happened to them. They are being shocked out of their denial.
Maybe they’ll finally take a long hard look at their life…
Then maybe they’ll do something about it.

Adventure is vital and realizing, then following your dreams, especially now, is a given. Well said, very true in a lot of respects. I appreciate the words. Really resonated with me.
