The Courage To Ask: What If?
Those of you who read this blog have noticed a few reoccurring themes
A handful of pivotal concepts – I believe once understood – will have a profound transformational
effect on your life. Some are simple and obvious. Some may cut to the very core of who you think you are and face a level of internal resistance that borders on the experience of “gasping for air” as the core of what you’ve become- fights any attempt to alter the balance of “it’s reality”.
The single most profound of these concepts being your ego
That part of you that is not who you really are – but is a reactionary algorithm. Literally
a piece of mind software designed to maintain a balance between your human operating system
and the outside world.
Your own personal GUI. “Graphical User Interface”.
Just like the look and feel you experience when you boot up your Mac or windows computer. What you see, when you click on a button and how it reacts to your commands – is all a facade. A cosmetic mask designed to interface between the operating system and the outside world.
Exactly what your ego is. An interface. A “go between”. A mask.
A tool for processing what you experience through your physical body as “your reality”…
The thing is, it’s not who you really are.
It’s the part of you that has tricked you into believing it’s who you really are.
Because ego is the direct interface to your rationalization capabilities – which has no real
ability to discern what’s true or untrue – ego’s first function is to always justify itself – and it
will do so at the cost of everything else.
Ego will shift reality. Rationalize anything. Literally turn light into darkness in order to justify it’s
own legitimacy and survival. It will do this to the point where it will convince you that “it” is
you…
It does this by trapping you in a never ending flow (mind chatter) that continuously keeps your
attention fixed on the “movie” of your life to the point where you forget that you’re the “director”
of that movie.
You become the actor instead of the writer creating the script and unfolding the story…
And when this happens – who you really are becomes lost in the day-to-day drama as you
continue to react to each moment… In the great outer play – the interaction with all the other
egos all lost in their own drama – of which you’ve now become a part – of their “story” – as much
as they are a part of yours.
And you continue to validate, feed and justify each other’s “hypnotic trance” and call it “your life” – spending your time and energy re-shuffling the “cards you’ve been dealt”… The life you’re stuck with.
But, deep inside on a pure feeling level you can’t shake – you know something’s missing.
To be continued…
