From the "Passion Unlocks Prosperity" series:

Self Development

The fastest way to get from where you are to where you want to be is through self development.

This means working from the inside out

Working from the outside in is why 97% of people fail to achieve their goals! In fact, goal setting is the worst thing you can do until you have first prepared your inner self to accept and embrace the inevitability of your success.

Without this essential ingredient you will fail to reach your goals ...Which will reinforce those feelings of "fear of happiness" and "I'm not worthy".

Self development includes the various learning activities you engage in that increases your understanding of how your imagination and mind works as well as how life really works. This greater understanding becomes the foundation upon which you will consciously create the rest of your life...

The word "consciously" means that you are fully aware of the decisions you are making. It's a decision which is based upon what you want for yourself.

You learn that you always get exactly what you expect out of life.

Self development: Inside work

Think of self development as a personal strategy in which you will systematically alter your attitudes, opinions and beliefs so that they harmonize with the good things you desire in your life. True love, wonderful friendships, financial security, abundance are all the by-products of your attitudes, opinions, beliefs and your day to day activities.

If you were going to build your dream house every reputable builder would insist on first laying the best possible foundation. Which is necessary to support the rest of the structure.

When I built my dream house we laid a foundation wall that was eight feet deep because our roof "system" was designed to handle 40,000 lbs! (Okay, I've got a really big living room!) Even though I live on the side of a mountain in Montana I don't expect 20 feet of snow on my roof...But I know it can handle it!

The point I'm trying to make is, the deeper you go into yourself the broader your foundation of understanding and expectation becomes.

What you "know and expect" is the foundation which supports the lifestyle you desire. It never works the other way around. In fact if you want to get a reality check that may surprise you, do a little research on how many people win the lottery and then go bankrupt!

The people who won large sums of money and then proceeded to go bankrupt were people who were living life from a poverty mindset...Their lives before the windfall reflected their attitudes, opinions and beliefs.

They were already poor of mind and spirit. They were already living the life they "knew and expected". Throw all the money in the world at these people and they will always recreate the poverty they had already conditioned themselves to believe, was their reality.

Which brings us to the real benefit of self development:

As you consciously adjust your inner self, your outer world will inevitably reflect that change...Think of it this way: As it is inside so will it be outside.

The life you experience outside of yourself is always a reflection of the life you are already living inside yourself. This is why I believe setting goals without first preparing your inner self, is setting yourself up for failure and frustration!

The foundation necessary to succeed simply isn't there with most people. What they want doesn't jive with their existing inner capacity to support it. It's kind of like trying to build a four story office building on top of a mobile home...

You'll crush the mobile home long before you get the walls up for the first floor!
